Peninsula Congresswoman Might Run For Governor: Report

Rep. Jackie Speier of San Mateo might have a career change in mind.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA -- A congresswoman representing the Pensinula area could run for California governor. Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown reportedly speculated the career change for Rep. Jackie Speier of San Mateo in his San Francisco Chronicle column.

"Speier’s chief of staff, Josh Connolly, told the Post yesterday (Jan. 1) that he had not spoken to Speier since Brown’s column had once out, and would try to get an answer. As of last night, the Post had not heard back from Speier’s office on whether she will run or not," the Daily Post wrote. "If she takes the plunge into the governor’s race, she would have to give up the House seat that she’s held since 2008."

The California governor's race is already tight with at least three major candidates from the Democratic Party: Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, state Treasurer John Chiang and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
