Peninsula Woman Killed In SMC Highway Wreck: CHP

MILLBRAE, CA — An 87-year-old Millbrae woman was killed in a car crash in unincorporated San Mateo County on Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol reported this week.

The crash was reported off of U.S. Highway 280 at Golf Course Drive near Crystal Springs Golf Course at about 2:30 p.m., according to the CHP.

A 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe had been traveling east on Golf Course Drive when it was hit on its right side by a white 2016 Volkswagen turning west onto Golf Course Drive from the northbound highway off-ramp.

The Hyundai rolled over due to the impact and came to a rest on its left side. A 63-year-old man driving the vehicle and his 87-year-old female and 89-year-old male passengers were taken to Stanford Medical Center.

The woman died at the hospital, according to the CHP. The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office will identify her once they receive the case and contact her family.

The Hyundai driver suffered moderate injuries and the other passenger reported only a complaint of pain. A 16-year-old girl from Redwood City driving the Volkswagen and her 15-year-old female passenger from Belmont were not injured. The CHP said neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected as factors in the crash.

The case is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Officer William Torr at (650) 369-6261.
