Preschool Program Opens To All Families In This Bay Area County
The program was previously only available to low-income families.

SAN MATEO, CA — The San Mateo County Office of Education stated it would open its inclusive preschool program to children on all ability levels and families of all incomes.
The Anne Campbell Child Development Center was previously only available to families that met the state’s income eligibility requirements. The Child Development Center serves children 2 years and 9 months through 5 years old, and uses a play-based approach to instruction and promotes social-emotional development, engaging children through project-based, investigative learning.
“Preschool is the foundation upon which all future learning is built,” Nancy Magee, San Mateo County superintendent, told Patch. “Our goal is to ensure all children feel a sense of belonging, develop friendships and receive the support they need to thrive. We embrace and promote the uniqueness of every child and work individually with each student to determine their best learning styles.”

San Mateo is facing a shortage of high-quality, inclusive preschool programs. The Child Development Center will now enroll fee-based students in its part-day and full-day programs while also continuing to provide financial aid to eligible students through the California Department of Education’s state preschool program.
The Child Development Center's curriculum fosters academic and social-emotional skills through developmentally appropriate, inclusive practices. Teachers collaborate with families and service providers, utilizing screenings and assessments to create personalized plans, leveraging strengths and addressing areas for growth.
