Most San Mateo-Area Schools Confirmed To Reopen Friday
Most Peninsula schools were closed Thursday due to a powerful winter storm.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — At least nine Peninsula school districts that were closed Thursday due to a powerful winter storm — including most San Mateo-area schools — are expected to reopen Friday, according to the San Mateo County Office of Education.
The San Mateo-Foster City, South San Francisco, Redwood City Elementary, San Mateo-Foster City, Woodside Elementary, Pacifica, San Mateo Union, Cabrillo Unified (Half Moon Bay-area) and Millbrae Elementary school districts are all confirmed to reopen Friday, according to the county agency.
Several school districts are on winter break.

The county website does not indicate whether the San Bruno Park Elementary and Portola Valley school districts will reopen Friday after both were closed Thursday due to the storm.
A “bomb cyclone”- fueled storm prompted Thursday's closures.
The storm killed at least two people including a toddler and caused widespread flooding and property damage throughout the Bay Area.

Winds associated with the storm topped out at 85 mph in Marin County.
The National Weather Service forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area calls for thunderstorms and heavy rain Thursday. Daytime highs are expected in the 50s and overnight lows in the 40s, with wind gusts easing off to 25-30 mph.
Another weather system is projected to bring additional rain and periods of stronger winds this weekend and next week.
