San Mateo Police Officer Targeted With Flare Gun, Man Arrested
A 44-year-old San Mateo resident was charged with assaulting a police officer with a firearm.

SAN MATEO, CA — A San Mateo man was charged with assaulting a police officer with a firearm after discharging a flare gun at a police car on Tuesday night, according to the San Mateo Police Department.
Yasuhito Oshima, 44, waited for the officer to drive past him at the intersection of Delaware Street and Cypress Avenue, according to police. Oshima was arrested at the scene after the officer saw him sitting at a nearby bus stop with a flare gun lying near his feet, police claimed.
A search warrant executed at Oshima’s home found a taser, taser cartridges, mace pepper gun, mace pepper gun cartridges and an empty flare cartridge, according to police.

On Jan. 27, an email from an address associated with Oshima was sent to multiple San Mateo County departments showing a flare gun being discharged over the San Mateo Police Department’s building on Franklin Parkway.
The investigation remains active and open, police said.
