Star Student Alex Takes Honors, College Courses While In High School
This student "is an advocate, supporter, and champion for the rights of himself and others. "

SAN MATEO, CA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Vicki Zettler who nominated Alexander of San Mateo.

How do you know the star local student?
I am his advisory teacher.
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Alexander (Alex) is a person with strong beliefs and convictions, he is an advocate, supporter, and champion for the rights of himself and others. Alex is an excellent student with a wide range of challenging classes, extracurricular activities, and college-level courses. His passion for computer game design is evident in much of his work, while he finds time for activism and volunteering as well. Academically, Alex excels at dTech and he has a huge list of extracurriculars. Alex has taken honors classes in Chemistry, Biology, English, and US History as well as numerous classes at community colleges, including Algebra II, Calculus, Astronomy, Game Design, and a number of Computer Programming courses. Alex has participated in internships while at dTech including at Tech Rocks and the Museum of Future Sports. Alex has been involved in many extracurricular activities such as leading the school’s Drawing Club, painting murals in the school and community, and developing his own video games. Alex also has part-time jobs working for Sandbox VR as a Guest Experience Guide, Athena Coding as an Instructor, and Pilot City as a Consultant. Alex has faced many challenges which he tackles head-on without hesitation. He thinks first, plans, and then acts. He is completely engaged in his academic learning, and fills the rest of his moments with his art, support of other communities, advocacy (for self and others), and being a role model for others at our school and in his community. I highly recommend Alexander for the Star Student recognition.
