SAN MATEO, CA -- Tires on nearly 20 cars in San Mateo were slashed Sunday morning, causing thousands of dollars in damages and prompting authorities to ask the public for help in identifying the person responsible. Police said the incident happened in the 500 block of Edinburgh Street.

Many of the cars had multiple tires slashed while other cars were parked in driveways. Officers determined that the suspect or suspects used a knife or sharp tool to puncture the tires, police said.

Police believe the suspect is a man, tall with a slim build who wore light colored pants, a hooded jacket, black gloves and black shoes.
