1 Arrested, 5 Cited At San Rafael DUI Checkpoint
Police said a recent checkpoint screened more than 480 vehicles in San Rafael.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and five others were cited for issues with their driver's licenses during a recent DUI checkpoint in San Rafael.
Officers staffed the checkpoint last Friday at Lincoln Avenue and Grand Avenue, where they screened 484 vehicles between 6 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
According to police, that number included six vehicles that were stopped to determine if the drivers were intoxicated or properly licensed. One driver was booked into jail on suspicion of DUI, and five others were cited and released for not having a valid license, police said,

DUI checkpoint locations are chosen based on the areas where previous crashes resulting from impaired driving have happened. Funding is provided by grants awarded each year by the state Office of Traffic Safety, and more checkpoints are planned in the coming months.
