Family Displaced In San Rafael Apartment Fire

Crews arrived and found a second-story unit engulfed in flames.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Fire crews extinguished a blaze at a San Rafael apartment complex on Saturday afternoon, the fire department said.

Firefighters were dispatched just before 12:30 p.m. to a two-story, 12-unit apartment building at 81 Woodland Ave. after multiple 911 calls had been received reporting a fire.

Crews arrived and found a second-story unit engulfed in flames. After determining that no one was inside, firefighters fought the blaze.

Crews immediately confirmed that all occupants were accounted for and then launched an aggressive interior attack to suppress the fire. Battalion chiefs from Ross Valley and Central Marin

Fire agencies were summoned to assist with incident management. Also, an additional ladder truck from the Kentfield Fire District responded.

The fire was contained to its unit of origin and was under control in 15 minutes, and did not spread to other apartments or a nearby complex, the San Rafael Fire Department said.

One family has been temporarily displaced and they are being helped by the Red Cross. Fire inspectors are still determining the cause of the blaze.
