Marin Water Mulls Decorative Grass Ban: Report
Residential properties, churches and sports fields and parks and among the settings that would be exempt from the ban, The IJ reports.
MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin’s largest water agency is considering a ban on decorative grass in commercial and municipal properties, The Marin Independent Journal reports.
Under a proposal soon expected to go before the Marin Municipal Water District, most of the decorative grass would have to be removed over several years, the report said.
The proposal aims to cut Marin's water usage amid an ongoing drought.

The MMWD serves 190,000 Marin residents.
“There are places where we just don’t need grass,” board Director Monty Schmitt said last month, according to the report.
“And I think that that maybe hopefully will help other folks to look at their own landscaping and say, ‘Do I really need to have grass there or could I put something else that’s drought-tolerant?'”
