SAN RAFAEL, CA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

Yes
What does the nominee do for work?:
Melanie Piazza works at WildCare as the director of animal care. She has volunteered with marine mammals, domestic animals and farmed animals. Melanie has completed many types of disaster response training for both people and animals.
Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
As a fully trained first responder for wildlife emergencies, Melanie has demonstrated incredible dedication to wildlife and their care. She has managed WildCare’s disaster response efforts since she began working there 18 years ago, from oil spills to wildfires to smaller scale neighborhood situations. If it affects wildlife, Melanie is first in line to lead the response.
What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:
Even through a global pandemic, Melanie's dedication shines as she leads teams of staff and volunteers to ensure that WildCare continues to provide professional emergency medical care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. She truly is essential and a hero to wildlife.
