SMART Cuts Price For Monthly Transit Passes
As most Bay Area workers continue to work hybrid schedules, monthly SMART passes are getting a double-digit price cut.
SAN RAFAEL, CA — North Bay commuters will pay 15 percent less for monthly passes aboard trains operated by the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District, the agency announced Tuesday. SMART's 31-day passes will run adults $117, with prices down to $58.50 for youth, seniors and riders with disabilities.
In a news release Tuesday, SMART said the savings were implemented in response to a recent survey that found more than half of Bay Area workers are still utilizing hybrid office arrangements.
"Post-pandemic ridership on SMART confirms the findings of the study," the agency wrote Tuesday. "While SMART has recovered over 90% of its pre-pandemic ridership, the agency has seen a 50% reduction in demand for monthly passes. The reduced 31-Day Pass pricing is based on the 'new normal' hybrid work schedule of a 3-day per week commute but is still valid for unlimited rides during the 31 days."
