Tamalpais Tops Rival Redwood 26-23, Ending 8-Year Drought

Tamalpais hadn't beat Redwood since Oct. 2, 2013, when it topped the Giants 15-12 for its third straight win against its traditional rival.

MILL VALLEY, CA — Tamalpais High ended an eight-year drought as the Red- tailed Hawks defeated Redwood 26-23 in a Marin County Athletic League game Saturday.

Tamalpais hadn’t beat Redwood since Oct. 2, 2013, when it topped the Giants 15-12 for its third straight win against the school’s traditional rival.

Sebastian Chen rushed for 108 yards on 18 carries to lead the Red-tailed Hawks (3-2, 2-0 MCAL) to their second straight win and their third win in four games.

Christian Son rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries and sophomore Braden Young scored from the 3 on his only carry for Tamalpais.

Sophomore quarterback Braden young completed 4 of 6 pass attempts for 100 yards and Nick Schottenfeld was 7-for-14 passing for 68 yards with one interception.

Samuel Reade caught five passes for 82 yards and one touchdown and Ezra Levy had two receptions for 62 yards and one touchdown.

Christian Son led Tamalpais defensively with eight tackles and sophomore Jake Son had seven.

Tamalpais plays Saturday on the road against a struggling Novato team that’s lost three straight games and has been outscored 173-50 on the season.

The Hornets are coming off a 14-13 MCAL loss to San Rafael on Saturday.
