Video: 2 Caught Illegally Dumping On Newly Installed Surveillance Cameras In Marin County: Police

A local city recently installed smart cameras at hotspots known for illegal dumping.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Two people were caught and charged with misdemeanors after they were caught illegally dumping items at city dumpsters in San Rafael, police announced Monday.

A recently installed smart surveillance trailer recently captured two individuals illegally dumping items at the city dumpsters on Albert Park Lane. Both suspects are being charged with misdemeanor illegal dumping, according to the San Rafael Police Department.

On Oct. 24, the City of San Rafael began deploying smart camera surveillance trailers. These trailers are being used at city hotspots known for illegal dumping.

Police said the cameras will be used to ensure accountability for offenders. Those caught can face fines up to $1,000 and criminal charges, according to the department.

Additionally, San Rafael apartment residents have the option to drop off bulky waste and junk at a monthly City event. This drop-off event takes place at Pickleweed Park, 50 Canal St., on the last Saturday of every month, running from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
