Boy in Critical Condition After Being Hit By Car While Riding Bike

A 13-year-old boy is in critical condition at Oakland’s Children Hospital after being hit by a car while riding his bike Thursday afternoon, the said in a press release.
The bicyclist was with four other boys who were walking westbound on Bollinger Canyon Road. The 13-year-old boy was slightly ahead of the other boys when he entered the crosswalk at the Bollinger Canyon and I-680 on-ramp intersection.
A small passenger car, traveling eastbound, entered the intersection and struck the 13-year-old. Police received a report of the accident at about 2:07 p.m.

The boy sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted to Children's Hospital. He had a helmet with him but was not wearing it.
The 13-year-old's parents are with their son at the hospital.

The driver was not hurt and is currently cooperating with police, and no criminal charges are expected to be filed, Lt. Mike Boehrer said.
The San Ramon Police Department traffic division is conducting a major injury investigation.
