Medical Helicopter Lands on I-680 to Airlift Crash Victim

The landing of the helicopter briefly prompted all four southbound lanes of the highway to close.

SAN RAMON, CA — All lanes of southbound Interstate Highway 680 in San Ramon have reopened this afternoon after a major-injury crash involving a truck that crashed into a tree on the side of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported shortly before 1:35 p.m. on southbound Highway 680 near the on-ramp from Bollinger Canyon Road.All four lanes of the highway were briefly blocked while a medical helicopter landed to airlift a person who suffered major injuries in the crash. An update on the person's condition was not immediately available from the CHP.

The two left lanes reopened shortly after the helicopter departed, and the other two lanes reopened as of about 3:15 p.m., CHP officials said.
