Crow Canyon Gardens Celebrates Winter Wassail This Weekend

San Ramon will gather Saturday to celebrate the new year with traditional English dances, singing, and plenty of mulled cider.

SAN RAMON, CA — Christmas may be over, but the long tail of Yuletide will be in full force this weekend as Crow Canyon Gardens hosts a traditional winter wassail celebration.

San Ramon's celebration takes its cue from the English tradition of "wassailing," a ritual full of dancing, singing and other merriment in the days following Christmas to ensure a good harvest in the year to come.

Berkeley Morris performs Morris Dances and sings traditional wassail songs at the free event, while the San Ramon Community Chorus enchants the crowd with more modern carols. Revelers will also get to sip on a non-alcoholic version of the customary wassail drink, a hot mulled beverage typically made with apples and served in a large bowl, and other garden harvest tastings.
