Hudson Not Running For Re-Election, Armstrong Running For Mayor

SAN RAMON, CA — San Ramon Mayor Dave Hudson announced that he will no longer run, ending his tenure as the city’s longest-serving council member, city officials told Danville-San Ramon. Meanwhile, Councilmember Mark Armstrong is the first person to announce his candidacy for the mayorship.

Hudson has served as a council member for over 25 years, following four years as a planning commissioner. He was first elected as mayor in 2020, and won re-election in 2022 against challengers Sabina Zafar and Dinesh Govindarao. He also served on a number of local boards and commissions, including the Contra Costa County Transportation Authority, the League of California Cities, and the East Bay Regional District Advisory Committee. He suffered a stroke in January 2023, and returned to his duties in May.

District 2 Councilmember Mark Armstrong, who as vice mayor filled in for Hudson during those months, was elected in 2020. He is a Certified Emergency Manager who graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, where he studied civil engineering. After that, Armstrong was an infantry officer for 30 years, serving a variety of assignments around the globe.

As council member, he sits on a number of committees, including Policy, Infrastructure, and Finance. He also serves on a number of city and regional committees.

“I have a demonstrated record of strong leadership. My commitment to our city is evident in my accomplishments as a seated City Council Member, Vice-Mayor, and Acting Mayor in 2023,” Armstrong said in his campaign statement. “I am not an aspiring politician with ambitions of being elected to higher office. I’m a resident who has lived in San Ramon for 20 years and intend to stay here.”

Armstrong listed public safety, protecting neighborhoods, preserving open space, enhancing quality of life, and fiscal responsibility as his top priorities.
