Olympian Will Attend Sentinels of Freedom Bike Riding Fundraiser

The bike ride will start in San Ramon on Sept. 22.

Christine Thorburn, a two-time Olympian bicyclist will be in attendance to help severely wounded veterans by joining V3, the first Veterans Victory Velo set for Saturday, Sept. 22, in San Ramon. 

Riders can still register for routes from 15 to 100 miles to raise funds for the Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation, which helps wounded veterans regain their self-sufficiency and independence.

Registration begins at 6 a.m. on ride day in the parking lot of the Foundation, 2678 Bishop Drive in San Ramon. Riders can choose from four routes, from the novice to the experienced:

  • 100-mile Century Ride begins at 7 a.m
  • 60-mile ride begins at 9 a.m.
  • 30-mile ride begins at 10 a.m.
  • 15-mile Family Fun Ride begins at 11 a.m.

The Family Ride will take cyclists up and down San Ramon Valley Boulevard, while the 100-mile Century Ride takes riders to the ranger station on Mt. Diablo, around Morgan Territory, into Livermore and back to the Foundation headquarters.

There will also be live music performed by Scarlet Machine and Minute2Minute, a barbecue and other fun events scheduled between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

In addition, a custom bike jersey is available to commemorate this ride. The Club Cut bike jersey, $65, is a little longer and looser than a Race Cut jersey.
