SAN RAMON, CA — The City of San Ramon will join the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, Contra Costa County and the East Bay Regional Park District to break ground on construction for the Iron Horse Trail Bollinger Canyon Road Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing. Members of the public are welcome to attend the ceremony, which will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. on the north side of the Iron Horse Trail at Bollinger Canyon Road.

The overcrossing has been in the works since at least 2009, when the city approved the San Ramon Valley Bicycle Pedestrian Corridor Concept Plan. The plan evaluated the feasibility of creating overcrossings along the trail to improve access for cyclists and pedestrians crossing busy intersections. The project aims to improve safety, improve vehicular traffic flow, eliminate unsafe crossing maneuvers, and increase trail use, among other goals.

Construction of the Bollinger Canyon Road Overcrossing is expected to take 18-24 months. A second crossing at Crow Canyon Road is currently in the pre-design phase, according to a city news release. The city has secured a $2 million federal grant for the design phase of the Crow Canyon Road Overcrossing.
