SAN RAMON, CA — Residents of the Windemere neighborhood of San Ramon are feeling on edge after four break-ins and a carjacking were reported in under a month.

“It’s unprecedented in this area,” a resident named Jordan told Patch in an interview. “We’re getting inundated with all kinds of crime.”

In each of the incidents, which were listed in the San Ramon Police Department’s Weekly Incident Log, one or two suspects rang the doorbell, and when no one answered, they accessed the backyard through the side gate, and broke in through the rear doors. In a February burglary on Craneford Way, video footage shows a Black man in a gray hoodie and green-blue head covering. He appears to have a gun, though this is not confirmed.

A resident named Alden who posted a photo and details about the Craneford Way robbery on Nextdoor, said the following incidents were reported on the San Ramon Police Department’s Weekly Incident Summary (aside from the incident on the 29th, which was reported to him by neighbors:)

  • Jan. 29: Arrowfield Way (suspects did not break in, but video footage shows them walking around on the porch.)
  • Jan. 29: Bandol Way
  • Feb. 17: Craneford Way
  • Feb. 17: Blakesley Drive
  • Feb. 20: Lilac Ridge Road
  • Feb. 24: Halifax Way
  • Feb. 29: Broadmoor Drive

The log is not available online for dates between January and Feb. 22, and Patch has requested a copy from the San Ramon Police Department. The department has a detective working on each case, though no suspects have been identified.

No one was home in any of these incidents, but in at least one case, suspects left with at least $20,000 worth of goods, according to Alden.

Wong also said that his front door camera caught a carjacking right in front of his house in December, which police have confirmed to Patch. Alden’s neighbor’s son came home at around 3 a.m. and dropped off a friend nearby. At a stop sign in front of Alden’s house, occupants of a car that had been trailing the young man cut him off, made him get out of the car, and drove away in it.

The car was found unoccupied in Hayward a few days later, San Ramon police told Patch. The victim’s father said there have been no updates on the case, though police found DNA in the car.

The San Ramon police incident log also indicates a car burglary on Feb. 26 at Ryan Industrial Court.

“I’ve been in San Ramon for 20 years, and this is the most I’ve ever heard,” Alden said. “I’m afraid to leave my house.” He said he and his neighbors have begun to take many steps to secure their homes, including installing cameras, alarms, beefing up Neighborhood Watch efforts, and talking to neighbors about recent incidents. He recommends turning on porch lights and locking side doors.

Anyone with information on any of these burglaries should call the San Ramon Police Department at 925-973-2700.
