Excessive Heat Warning Today through Sunday, July 7
Temperatures in San Ramon are expected to exceed 100 degrees over the next several days. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning starting today (Tuesday, July 2) at 11 a.m. through Sunday, July 7 at 8 p.m.
Stay cool and hydrated during this period. The City has a webpage with safety tips for hot weather, information on how to stay cool, and places to go if you need to cool down.

City Council Adopts Budget for 2024/25 Fiscal Year
Balanced Budget Includes Cuts to Operating Costs Across All Departments
At the City Council Meeting on June 25, the San Ramon City Council adopted a balanced budget for the 2024/25 Fiscal Year (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025). Click here to view the adopted budget.
This budget closes a $17.6 million shortfall in revenue through several strategies, including $8.1 million in budget cuts across all departments, un-funding vacant staff positions, and increasing user fees for City services.
The budgeting process began in December 2023. Three public workshops were held in 2024 as part of the budget review process (April 23, May 28 and June 4), followed by the June 25 City Council meeting where the final budget was adopted.
Budget Balancing Strategies for 2024/25:
Reduce departmental budgets citywide $8.1 million
Un-fund vacant positions $2.6 million
Enhance revenue from user fees $1.5 million
Transfer labor expense from General Fund to General Plan Fund 201 $0.3 million
Fund annual pension expense from reserves $1.6 million
Fund retiree medical benefits from OPEB Trust fund $3.5 million
Total: $17.6 million
The Adopted 2024/25 Budget includes cuts of approximately $8.1 million to the City’s operating costs, which impacts all City departments.
Cuts include:
- Staffing reductions across the City (during the 2024/25 fiscal year, new vacancies will also be evaluated and frozen if they are not deemed critical)
- Reduced hours at the San Ramon Library (closed Mondays)
- Reduced community events, including one summer concert, the Dive-In Movie program, one Presenting Series show, Holiday on the Farm, Holiday Tree Lighting at the San Ramon Community Center
- Reduced counter hours at community centers
- Elimination of Passport Services at City Hall
- Reduced landscape maintenance in City parks and school parks (maintained by the City)
- Reduced janitorial services in City facilities
- Reduced hours of operation for Bollinger Fountain
- Reduced timeframe and hours for Fall Recreation Swim

Potential Sales Tax Measure on City Council Agenda

At the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 25, the San Ramon City Council received a presentation on a community poll recently conducted, and provided direction to staff on drafting language for a potential sales tax measure for the November 2024 ballot.

The City Council will continue the discussion at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, July 9. Residents are encouraged to attend and provide Public Comment.
A final decision on whether to place a sales tax measure on the November 2024 ballot will be made at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, July 23.

Applications Open: San Ramon Police Department's Community Academy
Apply by July 31
Applications are open for the San Ramon Police Department's popular Community Academy for those who live or work in San Ramon!
The Fall 2024 session begins on August 14 and meets on Wednesday nights from 6:30–9:30 p.m. at San Ramon Police Department (2401 Crow Canyon Road, San Ramon CA 95683). The session will conclude on October 30.
This is an immersive program that covers a wide variety of topics and includes a day at the range, tour of the County Jail and a high-speed driving course.
San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District Launches New SRV Fire App

San Ramon Valley Fire is excited to launch SRV Fire, a new mobile citizen engagement application powered by GOGov. This application puts the power of SRV in the palm of your hand.
The app enables residents to connect with SRV and is available for download in the App Store and Google Play online stores. The new solution also simplifies the service request process for the staff, allowing them to easily track the issue and communicate with citizens.

Construction Update: Crow Canyon Widening
Upcoming Changes to Eastbound Traffic
Work continues on the Crow Canyon Widening Project between Alcosta Boulevard and Crow Canyon Private (Cobblestone).
Work Recently Completed Through 6/27/24:
- Completed eastbound paving operations
- Opened Barbados Drive
- Completed eastbound striping operations
- Began removal of pole bases east of Crow Canyon Private
- Continued site clean-up
Work Planned Through 7/12/24:
- Eastbound landscape and irrigation work
- Continue westbound Crow Canyon Road storm drain and grading work. This work requires closure of one westbound travel lane.
- Pour concrete median tips and miscellaneous concrete work
- Site clean-up
- Landscape mulch installation – requires closure of two lanes in the eastbound direction during working hours. A minimum of one lane will always be open for vehicles and bikes.

Work continues on the Iron Horse Trail Overcrossing at Bollinger Canyon Road. Please see below for anticipated upcoming work.

- Set Pile Cap Vertical Bar Support and Pour Grout for Pier 3 (median area)
- Formed / poured North Leveling Pad
- Formed / poured South Leveling Pad
- North MSE Wall structure substantially complete
- Poured Pier 3 Pile Cap
- Poured Pier 3 Pedestal
- Excavated for overcrossing stairs
Work Anticipated Through 7/12/24:
- Continue demolition, excavation, and grading on the Iron Horse Trail
- Continue MSE wall work on the south side of Iron Horse Trail
- Continue embankment fill and grading
- Install MSE wall drainage
- Pour foundation for overcrossing stairs
