San Ramon Officers Hospitalized For Possible Fentanyl Exposure: SRPD
A portion of the Diablo Valley Safeway parking lot was closed off after officers were likely exposed to Fentanyl during a vehicle check.

SAN RAMON, CA — A portion of the Safeway parking lot at 2505 San Ramon Valley Boulevard was closed off Wednesday afternoon after two San Ramon officers were hospitalized due to likely Fentanyl exposure during a vehicle check, according to the San Ramon Police Department.
Two suspects have been arrested, and the parking lot reopened at about 2:10 p.m. Wednesday.
At around 11 a.m., San Ramon officers responded to reports that a driver was passed out inside a vehicle idling in the supermarket parking lot, according to SRPD. Officers conducted a welfare check and observed suspected narcotics and a loaded, unserialized firearm within full view.

Two officers began to feel the effects of the drug, and were both transported to a nearby hospital. Both officers are listed in stable condition as of 2 p.m., according to SRPD.
At 12:43 p.m., SRPD sent out text and social media alerts warning that part of the Safeway parking lot was closed off due to a HazMat incident. The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District was on-scene decontaminating the vehicle and surrounding area. At 2:18 p.m., police told Patch the area was cleared.

A Safeway employee told Patch that the store has remained open throughout the incident.
The two occupants of the car — a 19-year-old male from Vacaville and a 27-year-old female from Cottonwood — were arrested on numerous charges, including possession of illegal narcotics and paraphernalia and possession of a loaded firearm without a serial number.
Both suspects were booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, SRPD said.
