SAN RAMON, CA — A group of Dougherty Valley High School students are holding a fundraiser for their club FemTruth Youth, which teaches young women about sustainability, financial literacy, and wellness.

Divya Gill, Akshara Immaneni, and Sravya Namburu interned for the organization, and decided to start their own chapter at Dougherty Valley, which does not teach these subjects. The club now meets twice a month, where they learn from different guest speakers about how to succeed and thrive in the world in a meaningful way. They are now hoping to expand into Gale Ranch Middle School and San Ramon Valley High School.

"Our club started as the FTY Green Team, so sustainability has always been our primary focus," co-founder Sravya Namburu told Patch. "However, we found that discussions about sustainability often lead to conversations about financial literacy. We’ve expanded our offerings to include speakers on financial literacy, which has been incredibly valuable for those interested in both business and understanding the broader impact of their financial choices on personal health and the environment."

To raise awareness and funds for their Green Kits, which provide sustainable menstrual product donations for girls in need, the group is hosting a Cause and Shop for a Cause event at Virtue + Vice in Danville on Wednesday. In addition to dinner, guests can enjoy a pop-up shop featuring local businesses like Love You More Designs, NeoBee Art, Stone Lumber Dirt, books from local author and FemTruth Youth Executive Director Silvia Young, and Crocharm, which is run by DVHS students Elina Bui and Anvita Manchiraju.

Cause and Shop for a Cause will take place from 5-8:30 p.m. Wednesday. RSVP here.
