Top 5 SRP Stories of the Week

From a local figure skater competing for a national championship, to the City Council talking about what San Ramon could look like in the future, we covered a wide variety of stories last week.

San Ramon native and Cal High graduate Craig Norris, along with his partner AnnaMarie Pearce, competed in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships at HP Pavilion in San Jose last week.

The pair finished in seventh place and plan to continue skating together for the long-haul, with their ultimate goal being to represent the United States in international competition.

"This year we were able to go back to the basics and gel and mesh together and really develop our skills," he said. "We really worked on a lot of that in the spring and summer. During the summer, we were traveling a bunch, doing a bunch of competitions and it gave us a lot of practice leading up to this."

Walt Disney, along with a number of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District schools, have completly overhauled their school lunches this year.

The lunch menu now includes homemade items instead of pre-packaged ready to heat foods, which were a part of school lunches for many years.

The healhier lunches was just one aspect of Thursday's celebration of "Health Awareness Day" at Walt Disney.

While giving birth two months ago, Josh's wife Anna died from what doctors believe was an amniotic fluid embolism.

Since that awful day, Josh has had to care for his newborn son, who has been hospitalized with health problems; he's interviewed and hired two nannies (one for the day, one for the night); and enrolled his 3-year-old son Ryan in preschool. All while grieving Anna's death. With all of the stress, frustration, anger and disbelief, including the lack of sleep, he's lost almost 30 pounds.

The $144 parcel tax that the  community passed in May 2009 generated  $6.6 million in the 2010-11 school year.

According to an independent committee charged with keeping an eye on those funds, that $6.6 million is being spent correctly.

What San Ramon could look like years, maybe decades, from now was the main topic at the City Council meeting Tuesday night.

The council heard two presentations. The first was the city's expected role in the regional One Bay Area Plan and the other an update on the status of the North Camino Ramon Specific Plan.
