SANTA CRUZ, CA—The Santa Cruz Education Foundation (SCEF), dedicated to promoting excellence in Santa Cruz City Schools, today released the names of those to be honored at the 2012 Eddy Awards. The Eddy Awards recognize the outstanding commitment made daily by the dedicated educators, staff and volunteers of Santa Cruz City Schools. The 4th annual awards will be presented at 6:30 on May 1, 2012 at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center, 320 Cedar Street in Santa Cruz. Kim Luke, voice of the Derby Girls, will host; a performance from the Santa Cruz High Theater production of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will open the evening.
"The Eddy Awards have become a very special event where we pause to take a moment to celebrate the people and programs that make Santa Cruz City Schools so wonderful for all of our students," said Suz Howells, President of the Santa Cruz Education Foundation.
New to the event this year is the Roseann Coonerty Layne Inspiring Teaching Award, offered by the Coonerty Family to honor the inspirational teaching of the late Roseann Coonerty Layne.

Outstanding Teachers
Teachers that inspire, challenge and support students
· Kindergarten – 3rd Grade: Sarah Balla, DeLaveaga
· 4-5th grade: Ginger Anderson, Westlake Elementary
· 6-8th Grade: Lorraine Jue, Mission Hill Middle School
· 9-12 Grade: Stacey Falls, Chemistry teacher, Santa Cruz High School
Roseann Coonerty Layne Inspiring Teacher Award
Honors a 7-12 English, History, Social Studies or Civics/Government teacher who ignites a passion for learning

Unsung Heroes
Unrecognized hardworking staff and parents that make a difference every day
