Highway 1 Closed By Landslide Near Rocky Creek Bridge

State Highway 1, the scenic road that hugs the California coastline, has been closed at Palo Colorado in Big Sur by a landslide.

MONTEREY, CA — State Highway 1, the scenic road that hugs the California coastline, has been closed at Palo Colorado in Big Sur by a landslide, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.

A slip south of Rocky Creek Bridge caused the loss of the southbound lanes and threatened the northbound lanes, the CHP said in a Facebook post.

Highway 1 is closed from the north at Palo Colorado to just south of Limekiln State Park, the CHP said. Caltrans engineers were assessing the situation.

Area residents were encouraged to check with neighbors to ensure they were aware of the alert and to monitor local media and social media.
