Man Accused Of Carjacking Arrested In Santa Cruz: SCPD

Police said the man also assaulted an officer with a pair of scissors while screaming "shoot me."

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Police in Santa Cruz on Thursday arrested a man in connection with a carjacking and other crimes. Jonathan Saldana, 31, was arrested on suspicion of vandalism, carjacking, resisting arrest, causing injury to an officer and committing a secondary offense while out for a primary offense, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department.

Officers on Thursday morning responded to the 1100 block of Pacific Avenue to an incident in which Saldana reportedly threw an object at a passing motorist. The driver of the truck got out of his vehicle, an argument ensued, and Saldana got inside the cab of the vehicle and attempted to drive off in the truck, police said.

Police said Saldana also assaulted an officer with a pair of scissors while screaming "shoot me."
Two additional officers were injured while trying to detain the suspect. Saldana was previously arrested on Jan. 17 for felony vandalism, police said.
