The future of Santa Cruz is looking bright, thanks to the incredible young people working to strengthen our community. In partnership with T-Mobile, Patch is proud to spotlight future leaders like Gabriella Goss, who are making a positive impact in and around Santa Cruz.

Gabriella, a film student at the University of Santa Cruz, is tackling habitat fragmentation and wildlife conservation through her project, "Building Bridges Between Ecosystems: An Exploration and Awareness Campaign for Wildlife Crossings." Awarded a $500 Alumni Leadership Award from Ecology Project International in 2024, Gabriella is using the funds to produce a documentary highlighting the impact of wildlife-vehicle collisions and the importance of wildlife crossings in California. Inspired by her experience in the Galapagos Islands during an EPI course, Gabriella is leveraging her passion for storytelling to raise awareness about the millions of animals killed annually by vehicles and to inspire action for conservation.

In addition to her documentary work, Gabriella has been named a 2024-2025 Humanities EXCEL Fellow, a program that connects students with off-campus internships to develop transferable skills and explore professional fields. Gabriella will gain valuable experience through this fellowship, complementing her academic pursuits and passion for advocacy.
