Mountain Lion Tracks Found Near Bay Area Beach — CalFire Warns Residents To Stay Alert
A mountain lion was also seen the same day in a nearby town.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — Multiple sets of mountain lion prints were found Wednesday on paths near a beach in Santa Cruz, officials said.
According to Cal Fire, large 4-5 inch mountain lion prints were photographed on Wednesday at the top of the path leading from the railroad to the bluff terrace near Davenport and Bonny Doon Beach.
The second set of tracks were identified, extending toward Bonny Doon Beach.

"Exercise extra caution if you are out during dawn or dusk. Please keep pets close and stay aware of your surroundings," Cal Fire officials said.

A mountain lion was also sighted Wednesday morning in Watsonville, near 1075 Main St., and was last seen heading toward Harkins Slough Road, police said.

"While there are currently no photos or videos of the sighting, we’re sharing this information to remind residents to always remain alert, especially when walking in open or rural areas. Animal Control and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife have been notified," the Watsonville Police Department posted on Facebook.
Police said residents in the surrounding area should:
• Bring pets indoors, especially at night
• Keep a close eye on young children when outside
• Never approach a mountain lion and call 9-1-1 immediately
If you encounter a mountain lion:
• Do not run
• Do not stare into its eyes
• Spread your arms wide to appear bigger to the lion
• Make loud noises
