Salinas Massage Sex Investigation: Additional Victims Come Forward

SALINAS, CA — The arrest of a Salinas man accused of sex crimes while providing massages has prompted several people to report they were victims, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said Saturday.

Anastacio Ramos Rubio, 58, was arrested July 25 after a woman told a family member she had been touched inappropriately while receiving a massage in the Boronda section of Salinas.

A relative of the victim said Rubio injected the woman with an unknown substance, claiming it would help her relax, and provided her with unidentified pills, according to the Sheriff's Office.

"In the Hispanic community, Rubio is more commonly referred to as a 'sobador,' which translates into a masseur or traditional healer who uses massage to treat ailments," the Sheriff's Office said. Such people may not be licensed or trained, it said.

"Our investigation leads us to believe that there are additional victims," the department said in a press release.

Rubio is accused of penetration with a foreign object, sexual battery, and practicing medicine without a license. His bail has been set at $1 million.
Rubio is Hispanic, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing 220 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He's believed to have been living in the Salinas area for about two years, the Sheriff's Office said.
