Santa Cruz Woman Killed In Fatal Highway 9 Crash; DUI Suspected

She was ejected from the car, the California Highway Patrol said. The driver has been arrested.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — One woman was arrested and a Santa Cruz woman was killed after a crash late Thursday along State Route 9 in Santa Cruz County, officials said.

Chyanne Pilgreen, 21, of Ben Lomond was driving her 2004 Nissan Xterra northbound on the highway, near Sequoia Road in Boulder Creek, when the car ran off the road and rolled over, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement. Her passenger, Stormie Worcester, 24, of Santa Cruz was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car, according to the Santa Cruz County coroner.

She was hospitalized at Dominican Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, CHP said. Pilgreen was hospitalized for minor injuries at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and arrested on suspicion of a felony driving under the influence charge.
