Santa Cruz Man Placed On Mental Health Hold After False 911 Call

The call prompted police to close off a busy street in Santa Cruz Wednesday.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A man was placed on a mental health hold Wednesday after a false report of someone threatening people with a gun in a home in Santa Cruz, according to police. The incident was first reported at 4:39 p.m. in the 100 block of Ocean Street.

Officers who responded heard screams coming from inside the home, and asked anyone inside the residence to come outside. Police determined that there were no victims inside the home and that the 911 call was a false report. The man, who wasn't identified, was taken to a hospital on a mental health hold.
