Santa Cruz Receives $50K To Help Fund New Playground
County Park Friends was given $50,000 from Capitola-Aptos Rotary to sponsor the Willowbrook Park Memorial Playground.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — County Parks Friends in Santa Cruz received $50,000 from Capitola-Aptos Rotary for the Willowbrook Park Memorial Campaign. The gift will help fund the new accessible playground.
“Capitola-Aptos Rotary is proud to sponsor the playground at Willowbrook Park." said Dr Arthur Dover, who proposed the project to the club. “This memorial will pay tribute to Damon Gutzwiller and will serve generations of families to come.”
The memorial honors Damon Gutzwiller of Santa Cruz County who frequently visited Willowbrook Park with his dog, Shasta. Gutzwiller served with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office for 14 years before he was killed in the line of duty in 2020.

The campaign goal is to raise $805,000. Earlier this month, the Santa Cruz County Deputy Sheriff's Association voted to contribute $100,000, the largest donation in the history of the association.
His memorial will include a memorial seating area, enhancements to the park entry and playground, a sports court, and a new flagpole.
