Shooting In Santa Cruz: 1 Wounded, Public's Help Sought

This shooting does not appear to have any connection to the recent gang related shootings in the downtown area, police said.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Santa Cruz police are looking for a suspect in a Sunday afternoon shooting that left a man injured.

Police said the shooting happened about 1:50 p.m. along state Highway 9, in an area commonly known as “Sycamore Grove,” on the lower end of Pogonip Park. Police arrived to find evidence and witnesses, but no suspects or victims.

A short time later, an adult male suffering from a single gunshot wound arrived at a nearby hospital, police said. The victim remained hospitalized Tuesday in stable condition, according to police.

The suspect is still outstanding, "but we do not believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety," police said in an update Tuesday.

The Santa Cruz Police Department asks anyone who has a home or business surveillance system within the incident area to please check their footage for possible leads in this case.
