SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A sinkhole that formed in Santa Cruz County on state Highway 1 will impact traffic for Monday morning commuters, Caltrans said.
An image shared Sunday morning by the California Highway Patrol showed an oval sinkhole a few feet in diameter in the inner shoulder of the highway, near the median at Buena Vista Drive, just north of Watsonville. By afternoon, Caltrans crews had excavated a large portion of the highway lane to address the problem.
The left lane is closed in the southbound direction at Buena Vista Drive and will remain closed as crews continue repairs, Caltrans said. Travelers should expect delays.
