Solo-Vehicle Crash Kills Driver Near Santa Cruz
The crash happened Wednesday between Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — The California Highway Patrol reports that one person died in a solo-vehicle crash Wednesday north of Santa Cruz.
Officers responded to multiple reports beginning at 3:41 p.m. from callers who said they heard a collision in the 300 block of Granite Creek Road between Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley, near the fire station for the Branciforte Fire Protection District.
Within a few minutes, callers reported seeing a vehicle -- not visible from the roadway -- that had gone off the road and overturned near a creek bed.

The sole occupant of the vehicle was unconscious and not breathing, according to reports from CHP, which later changed the incident designation at from major injury to a fatality.
