Decision Time for Bernie Sanders Supporters: Letter to the Editor
'Sanders' campaign supporters, and a lot of other voters, have a decision to make ... if they are going to be a part of the solution.'

Twenty years after I left Vietnam, I fulfilled a promise to myself to participate in a presidential election when Jerry Brown's "We the People" campaign opened a headquarters in my hometown of Santa Monica, California.
During that year, 1992, I drew no salary from the campaign for my family, but it was the most rewarding thing I have ever known, even though Brown ultimately lost to the Bill Clinton political juggernaut. Today, that scenario of an insurgent campaign is being played out yet again, this time by Bernie Sanders' run for the Democratic nomination for president.
At this time in 1992, Brown had to decide if he was going to drop out against the impossible mathematical odds of winning the nomination or go to the convention in New York City to make his case. And he did. And why not? What was Brown supposed to do instead, turn to the people and say, "Just kidding, go home?"

Sanders' campaign supporters, and a lot of other voters, have a decision to make as well if they are going to be a part of the solution instead of the problem.

I am asking that Sanders' supporters give great thought to political realities of where their campaign is and who they are diametrically philosophically, politically and socially opposed to. And also that the Democratic Party and its nominee will assuredly campaign hard with or without the Sanders supporters.
And as Brown once said, I say to the Sanders supporters, and everyone else who is appalled and dissatisfied with the Republican choice, "Stand with them or fight with us."
