Is it that time of year already?
It's been warm enough to make ice melt, but work is already underway to build Downtown Santa Monica Inc.'s outdoor skating rink at the corner of Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue. The grand opening is Nov. 8.
The ice rink will stay frozen in spite of Southern California's sunny weather thanks to a network of underground pipes filled with a refrigerant called glycol.
