SANTA MONICA, CA — A former Santa Monica city clerk has come out of retirement to serve as an interim replacement as the city searches for a permanent city clerk, officials announced Friday.

Denise Anderson-Warren, who retired in 2023 after eight years with the city, will start Jan. 15, pending the city council’s approval of her contract, the city of Santa Monica said. Her role comes with a salary of $119.13 per hour, according to officials.

“We are very pleased that Denise has agreed to step in and serve as our Clerk in an interim capacity,” Mayor Caroline Torosis said in a written statement. “We are grateful for her willingness to return and support the City in this critical role.”
