Al Zegar Makes Kaleidoscopes and Grandfather Clocks in his Spare Time

Al Zegar comes to the Mission Hills Bowling Alley where he once worked as a boy who set up the pins, before they were automated.

Zegar is 72 now, and he still visits his friends at the bowling alley because he lives nearby in Granada Hills.

This week, he was show some friends his new hobby. He made a kaleidoscope from hand, and was bringing it around to show people.

"No, I don't want to sell it, I don't make these things to sell them, I just need something to do," he said.

Zegar was a toolmaker, so he is good with his hands. Not only was he showing around his wooden kaleidoscope, but he had photographs of the grandfather clock he also built.

"I just like keeping busy and making things," he said.
