Pedestrian on 101 Freeway Who Died in Police Custody Identified

The pedestrian was taken into custody on Tuesday and was then pronounced dead at the scene.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Authorities on Feb. 14 identified a pedestrian who died after being taken into custody on the Hollywood (101) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles.

The man has been identified by the coroner's office as Oscar Rojas Jr., 34. His hometown was not known by authorities.

It's unclear what brought officers about 3:25 p.m. Tuesday to the southbound side of the freeway at Alameda Street, but the pedestrian was taken into custody and then pronounced dead at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig.

An autopsy was pending to determine Rojas' cause of death.
