LASD Arrests 32 in Lynwood DUI Checkpoint

Close to 2,700 drivers passed through the weekend checkpoint on Long Beach Boulevard and the Glenn Anderson Freeway.

LYNWOOD (CNS) - Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department  (LASD) deputies arrested 32 people during a DUI checkpoint operation in Lynwood over the weekend, authorities said today.

Nearly 2,700 drivers passed through the checkpoint erected on Long Beach Boulevard at the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway Friday night, and 1,187 drivers were checked, said Captain Mike Parker of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

One driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI with a blood-alcohol level of .22 percent, he said. That's .14 over the legal limit. One driver was arrested for having had alcohol while on probation for an alcohol-related offense, he said.

Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of being impaired by marijuana, two were arrested on suspicion of being drug addicts and driving, and three drivers were arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of narcotics, he said.

Fifteen drivers were arrested and sent to court on suspicion of driving without a license, one person was arrested for knowingly allowing an unlicensed driver to drive, and seven drivers with suspended or revoked licenses were arrested and ordered to appear in court, Parker said.

Several vehicles were impounded -- 11 stored for one day, eight impounded for 30 days and eight released to registered owners, he said.
