Public Media Funds Slashed

Low-Income communities now have less access to quality television

On Friday, July 18,2025, Congress voted to cut public media funding by $1.1 Billion dollars. How does that affect you ?

Media outlets such as NPR and PBS will no longer be able to sustain and put out updated quality television that they have been supplying for decades. PBS has been a staple in children's programming for several decades giving us Mr. Roger's Neighborhood which was reinvented into Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. PBS all provided shows such as Sesame Street, Peg + Cat, and Odd Squad which were not only entertaining but educational on multiple levels.

Then there are outlets such as NPR which provide detailed investigative journalism, and informative stories from around the world. These are shared via television, internet, and social media. Their reach is far and wide. Without adequate funding we will loose these resources.

What do all of these have in common? They promote independent and critical thinking. At times encouraging people to question authority, and think outside the box. In these drastic and volatile political times this is frowned upon and deeply discouraged. This is just the first of many steps for a take over of the media completely. Where the public will no longer have a say so in what we hear and see on television.

What's the next step?

Pressuring and intimidating networks to drop those who speak out and oppose the President Donald Trump. Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert was also cancelled after next season due to criticism of Donald Trump's lawsuit. In addition, Stephen Colbert opposed the position of Paramount + the network that carries The Late Night Show.

What should we expect?

Networks will begin to change programming and hosts and will continue to censor those who oppose Project 2025 and the Republican Right. This is only the beginning of media takeover against the 1st Amendment, free will and free thinking. They are modelling after North Korea and Nazi Germany. We are reliving history.
