Event Highlight: Critters at SoPas Gallery

Visit SoPas Gallery Saturday for free refreshments and a look at its latest exhibit.

Residents are invited to the opening reception for artist Beverly Archer Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m at SoPas Gallery, 1121 Mission St, hosted by the .

In her first solo show at the gallery, Archer has created an array of ceramic work called "Critters," in which she used a technically innovative process of hand building.

"The process included a menagerie of artfully glazed bovine, equine, and lapine subjects in both fragmented and fully realized forms," according to a press release.

Archer says her inspiration was derived from a trip to Xiem Clay Center a few years back.

"In pursuit of a new creative muse, I had the amazing good fortune to stumble into Xiem Clay Center in Pasadena in Aug. of 2007," she wrote about her work. "I was immediately smitten."

Archer's work will be on dispay at SoPas Gallery through Oct. 10.
