A haunting theatre experience takes shape with grit and creativity

Local South Pas mother and daughter helm this year's Halls of Horror

Some families cook or play sports together. Lisa Henderson and Aubry Deetjen roll up their sleeves and start hammering. And when they do, something magical happens. For the second year in a row this South Pasadena mother and daughter are building sets for Halls of Horror, an immersive live theatre experience, created entirely by students from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts where Aubry, 16, is a junior. Lisa, a local architect and instructor of theatre tech at the school, is overseeing this mammoth undertaking with a team of dedicated student and parent volunteers. For the crew who have spent Wednesdays and weekends together for the past month, the project build is a bonding experience. Next step is watching their creative efforts come to life with actors, costumes, and makeup. Halls of Horror, now in a bigger location at 515 E. Fairview in San Gabriel, will feature two eerie performances, Happily Never After and Isla de las Muñecas (Isle of the Dolls) Thursdays-Saturdays October 20-22; 27-29 6:30-10pm. Recommended age is 10+. For tickets go to https://www.lachsa.net/boxoffice.
