Police: 82-year-old Man Missing from South Pasadena Convalescent Hospital
Family members of the 82-year-old man told South Pasadena Police that he suffers from early stages of Alzheimer's, authorities said.
Police on Tuesday were looking for an 82-year-old Alzheimer's patient who walked away from the South Pasadena Convalescent Hospital on Friday, Officer Richard Lee said.
Abenicio Chavez weighs 100 pounds and stands 4 feet 11 inches tall, according to the "critical missing person'' bulletin authorities released Tuesday. Chavez is described as bald and Latino with brown eyes. It is unknown where he might be headed, the bulletin states.
Chavez does not have a medical alert bracelet, and may not have any form of identification in his possession.

When asked why South Pasadena Police were just reporting a "critical missing'' on Tuesday, when Chavez was last seen at the convalescent hospital at 7:30 a.m. Friay, Lee said the family hadn't alerted police until Monday night.
A woman who answered the phone Tueday night at the convalescent hospital declined to comment about Chavez, or to give her name.
