Biotech Hub Powers SSF Economy: Photos Of The Day
The total economic output of Biotech in South San Francisco is $133.5 billion, supporting more than 250,000 workers, according to Biocom CA.
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The City of South San Francisco bills itself as the birthplace of biotechnology, with the founding of Genentech in 1976. "Today, South San Francisco is home to one of the largest biotech clusters in the world," the City reports on its website. "Over 250 biotech companies and 12 million square feet of biotech space form the anchor of South San Francisco’s economy."
The region's universities — including Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UCSF — continually feed new talent to the companies.
