Comcast Employees, Families Help Beautify Buri Buri Elementary

On Saturday, received a little "tender loving care" from a group of local Comcast employees and their families, as part of the company's 11th annual "Comcast Cares Day."

The efforts included repainting walls, planting, restriping the playground and generally cleaning up the grounds of the school.

Statewide, Buri Buri was one of 17 schools employees volunteered their time at.

In addition to Comcast employees and their families, local schoolchildren as well as local elected officials, business executives and community leaders assisted in the beautification project at Buri Buri Saturday. They included Jerry Hill, California State Assemblymember for the 19th District; Pedro Gonzalez, the vice-mayor of South San Francisco; Phil Weise, vice-president of the South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees; Dr. Jay Spaulding, principal of Buri Buri; and Anni Chung, president and CEO of Self-Help for the Elderly.

"Our local students and campuses continue to feel the devastating effects of school budget cuts, and we hope that our 'Comcast Cares Day' efforts at 17 California schools can have a positive impact on that situation,"  said Curt Henninger, regional senior vice-president for Comcast California.  "'Comcast Cares Day' is part of our ongoing commitment to education and to improving the quality of life in the neighborhoods where we live and work."

The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each volunteer who participated on "Comcast Cares Day." The grants will help Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. 

"For more than a decade our employees, families and friends have made 'Comcast Cares Day' one of the nation's most successful corporate giving events," said Brian L. Roberts, chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation.  "Since we began this effort in 2001, more than 360,000 Comcast volunteers have contributed more than 2.1 million hours of service to their communities. We care deeply about the cities and neighborhoods where we work and live, and 'Comcast Cares Day' provides an opportunity to celebrate those communities by coming together to give back to them."

The grants have totaled roughly $10.5 million since 2001.
