Gun Stolen From Car Recovered In San Mateo County: Police

Officers tracked the stolen firearm to a local encampment, police said.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Officers received a tip that a person who was unhoused and living in a nearby encampment was possible in possession of a gun that had been stolen from a car in South San Francisco, police announced Wednesday.

Last week, South San Francisco Police Department officer said they learned that a locally known person who was unhoused may have a gun taken in a car burglary that had occurred at a hotel parking lot on South Airport Boulevard.

Police followed up on the lead and found the suspect at an encampment on Marco Way. Police said they searched his belongings and found the stolen gun, other stolen items from the car burglary and more property associated with other burglaries in South San Francisco.

The 30-year-old South San Francisco man was arrested on multiple felonies and booked into the San Mateo County Jail, police said.
